Salt Lamp Fire Bowl

Himalayan salt fire bowls

A fire bowl is a shallow dish carved from a single piece of Himalayan rock salt, filled with loose salt chunks and lit from beneath. The light comes up through the pieces rather than out through a solid wall, which gives a broken, flickering glow closer to embers than to a lamp.

We stock three: a plain bowl filled with natural salt chunks, one filled with carved salt hearts, and one filled with salt balls. Each measures roughly 16 cm by 17 cm, sits on a wooden base, and comes with a 15 W bulb, cord and UK plug.

Where they work

Fire bowls are wider and lower than a standard lamp, so they suit a coffee table, a mantelpiece or a windowsill where a tall lamp would be awkward. They throw slightly less light than a natural lamp of similar weight because the light is broken up by the loose pieces, so treat them as an ambient object rather than a functional light.

The loose chunks can be lifted out and rearranged, and any that pick up moisture can be dried and put back.
